Squarespace or a managed roofing website: good design is not the same as a working lead machine

Squarespace is the best-looking of the DIY builders and a roofing company can absolutely launch something smart on it. The gap for roofing is depth: the trade sells through proof photos, a page for every town, a warranty page, a claims explainer and a stream of published content, none of which a template supplies. If design polish is what has been missing, Squarespace closes that. If it is leads from towns you do not currently rank in, that is a page architecture and a content problem instead.

The short version

Squarespace wins on out-of-the-box design polish. Roofing needs page depth, local coverage and follow-up, which is work, not a template.

Roofing is not a portfolio business, quite

Squarespace grew up around photographers, restaurants and studios, where a beautiful single flow is the product. Roofing shares the visual half, your finished jobs are the argument, but it also needs the unglamorous half: town pages, service pages, a financing page, an insurance claims explainer and policy pages. A template that looks superb with eight pages starts to feel thin at forty, and forty is roughly where a serious service area lands.

What a proof gallery needs to do for a roofer

A homeowner is not browsing your gallery for pleasure. They want to find a roof like theirs, in a neighborhood like theirs, finished by you. That means the gallery is organized by roof type and material, each project captioned with the town, the system and what the job involved, and every image compressed so the page still opens on a phone. We build it that way and we sort the photos for you as you send them, which is the part that otherwise quietly never happens.

Seasonality is a build requirement, not a design choice

Roofing has a rhythm no template accounts for: quiet weeks, then a hail event and 48 hours where speed of response is the whole sales pitch. Storm response mode is built into every site we do, dormant until you raise it as a revision, and it changes the banner and shortens the estimate form when you need it. On a DIY builder that is you rebuilding a page during the busiest week of your year.

Line by line, with nothing hidden

The same twelve dimensions on every comparison page, so you can hold two of them side by side. Where a competitor answer says "varies" or "depends", that is the honest answer rather than a dig.

When each one is the right answer

When Squarespace is the better choice

  • Design polish is the main thing missing and you want it cheaply and quickly.
  • You are a small operation in one market with a short list of services.
  • You want to edit your own pages whenever you feel like it.
  • You have a designer who already works in it and knows your brand.

When the managed build is the better choice

  • You want to compete for searches in a dozen towns rather than look good in one.
  • Your job photos keep piling up with nowhere organized to put them.
  • You want storm season handled by a switch rather than a rebuild.
  • You want articles published every week without anyone at the company writing them.

Not either or

Moving across from Squarespace

Bring the parts that are working. Good photography, a brand you like and copy you are proud of all transfer; we rebuild them into a structure with room for towns, services and proof, then redirect every old URL so nothing that already ranks is lost.

  • Design direction and brand carried over rather than replaced for the sake of it.
  • Photos re-sorted by roof type and compressed properly.
  • A complete 301 redirect map built before the switch.

The old site took about six seconds to load on a phone in a driveway, which is where most of our traffic is. The rebuild opens straight away, and our paid clicks stopped bouncing before the page even drew.

Questions about Squarespace and this build

My Squarespace site looks great. Why change it?

If it is bringing in the inquiries you want, do not change it. The usual reason roofers move is that it looks good and ranks for almost nothing, because a handful of pages cannot compete for a service area.

Can you match the design we already have?

We can carry the brand, the colors and the feel across, and we will tell you honestly where something on the current site is working against conversions on a phone.

Will we lose the blog posts we have written?

No. They are migrated and redirected, and they keep their place in search rather than being abandoned at the old address.

Do you handle the domain transfer?

Yes, or we simply point your existing domain at the new site if you would rather leave it where it is registered.

How is the gallery different from a Squarespace gallery?

It is organized by roof type and material with captions naming the town and the system, and every image is sized and compressed for a phone. The goal is a visitor finding a job like theirs in two taps.

Can we keep editing pages ourselves?

No. Changes go through a revision request and we make them within the standard turnaround. That is the trade: you stop being the webmaster.

What about our booking or scheduling tool?

Tell us which one you use and we integrate it, or route inquiries into it, during the build.

How long does the move take?

7 days from the onboarding call on Deck, with your current site live throughout.
