WordPress or a managed roofing website: which one actually gets maintained?

WordPress is the most flexible option on this page and it powers an enormous share of the web, so nobody should tell you it cannot build a good roofing site. The question is who runs it afterwards: core updates, plugin updates, security patching, backups, a broken layout after an update, and the slow creep as plugins pile up. A managed build takes all of that off you and guarantees a speed score instead, at the cost of the freedom to install anything you like.

The short version

WordPress gives you total control and total responsibility. If nobody at your company wants the second part, the managed build is the honest answer.

  • Live in7 days
  • Speed90+ PageSpeed, guaranteed
  • Changes5 a month, 2 to 5 working days
  • Build fee$697, after launch

The plugin stack is where roofing sites go slow

A typical roofing WordPress site ends up with a page builder, a forms plugin, a gallery plugin, an SEO plugin, a caching plugin to undo the damage from the first four, a security plugin and a backup plugin. Each one loads its own code on every page. A homeowner standing outside on one bar of signal pays for all of it. Custom-coded pages ship only what the page needs, which is why a speed score can be guaranteed rather than hoped for.

Updates are not optional, and they are not free

WordPress core, the theme and every plugin need updating, and an update occasionally breaks a layout or a form. Somebody has to notice, fix it and test it. On a roofing site the form is the business, so a quietly broken estimate form during storm season is expensive in a way that does not show up until the calls do not come. Either you pay somebody a monthly retainer to watch it, which starts to look like the managed fee, or it gets watched when there is time, which is never in the busy season.

What you genuinely give up by not using WordPress

Freedom. With WordPress you can install any plugin, move to any host, hire any developer and take the whole thing with you. That is a real advantage and worth weighing, particularly if you have a developer in the family or a marketing person on staff who knows the platform. Our model trades that freedom for the maintenance disappearing: we build and host it, and you never log in.

Line by line, with nothing hidden

The same twelve dimensions on every comparison page, so you can hold two of them side by side. Where a competitor answer says "varies" or "depends", that is the honest answer rather than a dig.

What mattersWordPressGetRoofingWebsite
Page speed and Core Web VitalsAchievable with care, and commonly poor in practice once a page builder and several plugins are installed.90+ PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop, and kept there as the site grows.
SEO controlTotal, through plugins. The control is only as good as the person configuring it.Handled for you: page architecture, titles, descriptions, internal links and sitemaps maintained as the site changes.
Schema and structured dataAvailable through plugins, and easy to end up with duplicated or mismatched markup. One correct set per page type, generated from the page data rather than bolted on.
AEO and GEO readinessEntirely down to how the content is written and structured.Answer-first writing, visible FAQs and llms.txt as a standard part of the build.
Hosting and securityYou choose and pay for a host, and patching is your responsibility or your host's.Cloudflare hosting, SSL, CDN, DDoS protection and unmetered bandwidth in the monthly fee.
Maintenance burdenContinuous: core, theme and plugin updates, backups and the occasional broken page.Zero on your side. There is nothing to update and nothing to patch.
Who does the workYou, a staff member, a freelancer or an agency on retainer. We do, including content and every revision.
Content and blogExcellent blogging tools. Somebody still has to research and write the articles.2 to 3 researched, sourced articles a week, written for roofing.
Design qualityAnything from outstanding to a stretched theme, depending on who builds it.A custom design for your business rather than a theme adapted to it.
Accessibility and policy pagesPlugins exist. Accurate policies and consent that genuinely blocks scripts still need setting up properly.Written for you, with consent that actually gates analytics and marketing scripts.
Cost modelHosting, premium plugins, a theme, plus development time or a retainer. Variable by month. One monthly fee from $127 plus the $697 build fee after launch. Nothing else to buy.
Lock-in and ownershipStrongest here: you own everything and can move host or developer freely.Your domain and content are yours; the code and design stay ours.

When each one is the right answer

When WordPress is the better choice

  • You have somebody technical in the business who already knows it and has the time.
  • You need a specific plugin or integration that only exists in that ecosystem.
  • You want to be able to hire any developer anywhere and hand over the whole site.
  • You are running something unusual, such as a product store or a membership area, alongside the roofing site.

When the managed build is the better choice

  • Nobody at the company wants to own updates, backups and broken forms.
  • You want a guaranteed speed score rather than a plugin stack you hope is configured well.
  • You want town pages, articles and photos handled every week without asking.
  • You want one predictable monthly number instead of hosting, plugins and a developer's hourly rate.

Not either or

Moving off WordPress without losing what ranks

This is the most common migration we do. Your existing site stays live while we build. We review every page that currently gets traffic, rebuild what is worth keeping, and map a 301 redirect from every old URL to its new equivalent before anything is switched over, which is what carries rankings and inbound links across.

  • Existing pages and posts reviewed, and the ones that earn their place rebuilt.
  • A complete 301 redirect map, built before the old site comes down.
  • Your domain stays yours throughout, and nothing changes for people who already know your address.

Questions about WordPress and this build

Can you move my existing WordPress content across?

Yes. Pages, posts, photos and reviews worth keeping are migrated during the build, and anything that no longer serves a purpose gets redirected rather than recreated.

Will I lose my Google rankings when I move?

The redirect map exists specifically to prevent that. Every old URL that ranks or has links pointing at it is redirected to its new equivalent, and nothing goes offline until you have approved the new site.

Who updates the site if I am not on WordPress?

We do. There is no core, theme or plugin to update on your side, and there is nothing for anyone at your company to log into.

What if I want a feature that is a plugin in WordPress?

Tell us what it needs to do and we build or integrate it if it fits the plan. What we will not do is promise an integration before we have confirmed it works, which is the failure mode plugins are famous for.

Is my content locked in?

No. Your domain is registered in your name and your content stays yours. If you cancel, we send an export of your content and articles within 14 days.

Can I keep my WordPress site running in parallel?

You can keep it up while we build, which is what we recommend. Running two live sites on the same domain afterwards is not a good idea, because they compete with each other in search.

What about my existing hosting contract?

Hosting is included with us, so you can let the old one lapse. We do not advise canceling it until the new site is live and the redirects are confirmed.

Do you charge separately for security or backups?

No. Hosting, SSL, CDN and DDoS protection are in the monthly fee, and there is no separate security, backup or bandwidth bill.
